Ever imagine roadside rubbish bins that self-empty, and streets free from visible garbage collection trucks, resulting in a cleaner and more sustainable environment to appreciate? In this session, we will discuss an innovative engineering technology designed to help solve one of the most pressing issues in the world today: solid waste management. The technology, known as the Automated Waste Collection System (AWCS), transports municipal or domestic solid waste through underground or ceiling-height pipes at high speeds from waste chutes or outdoor load stations to a centralized collection station, located away from residential neighbourhoods. The waste, transported through the pipe network, is stored in a fully sealed container that is periodically collected by a conventional arm roll truck. We will explore the various cutting-edge AWCS technologies available to meet the waste removal needs of different types of developments. Additionally, we will discuss the benefits that system sustainability brings to the community and the environment, as well as the challenges we may face in implementing this system.

About the Speaker:
Ir. Chea Thean Teik is the Group Chief Executive Officer of STREAM Group, Malaysia’s first Central Vacuum Systems (CVS) and Automated Waste Collection Systems (AWCS) company. Ir. Chea joined STREAM Group in 2005 and has since made significant contributions to its development. Today, the company serves over 320 customer projects across Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, China, India, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. As a certified Professional Mechanical Engineer, Ir. Chea possesses a deep understanding of the market, with over 26 years of extensive, multi-country experience in CVS & AWCS, waste management, building M&E services, mechanical handling engineering, project management, and contract administration. Enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge in waste management, Ir. Chea has been invited to speak at universities, corporations, and conferences both locally and internationally in recent years. Ir. Chea has also been awarded the titles of International Professional Engineer (IntPE), APEC Engineer, ASEAN Chartered Professional Engineer (ACPE), and ASEAN Engineer (AER).
