Synopsis
Building Information Modelling (BIM) is increasingly getting the attention of all stakeholders in the construction industry. BIM is a digital model representing the dimensional, technical, and functional characteristics of a building. It is a shared data and knowledge platform for all involved and provides a basis for the decision-making during the entire life cycle of a building, from design to construction, operation, and maintenance. BIM benefits all stakeholders at different phases of the building’s life cycle. It bridges the gap between construction and operation, resulting in time and cost savings in maintaining the building. This half-day seminar will introduce BIM in Singapore and Malaysia. The BIM processes and tools adopted will be discussed. The cost benefits and return on investments will be highlighted. Real-life BIM projects implemented, with walk-through and 4D simulations, will also be presented. Additionally, this seminar will introduce developments in the digitization processes adopted in the Singapore construction industry, on-sites and in the specialist suppliers’ factories. This simplified construction project management platform for integrated digital delivery will be discussed. About the Speaker:
Mr. Ramamoorthy Rajendran is a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng-Structures-EA) with over 30 years of experience in the Singapore construction industry. He has very strong technical knowledge in construction methodologies, inter-agencies building codes, regulations and functional requirements for building and construction. Currently, he is the Director of DigitalBuild Pte. Ltd., a specialist solution provider for engineering consultancy for modular construction & digital solutions. Formerly, he was Director for Technology and Capability Department at the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore involved in the assessment and implementation of new engineering solutions including Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) Technologies. Mr. Ramamoorthy has also previously worked with notable contractors such as Dragages Singapore Pte. Ltd. and Woh Hup Pte. Ltd., where he was involved in the execution of many high-rise buildings in Singapore.
Mr. Midun Murugeasan is a Registered BCA-certified BIM Manager and IDD Professional. He is a Structural Design Engineer with over 10 years working experience in high-rise residential, commercial, and heavy industrial buildings, with specialization in the design of various precast concrete structures and modular construction solutions. He is currently with DigitalBuild Pte Ltd involved in strategizing and Implementing BIM & VDC Projects, generating various BIM Execution Plans for Projects, Creating Road Plans, Workflows, Implementing Digitization in Construction, and providing BIM & IDD Training and Implementation, as well as designing for Safety Models.
About the Moderator:
Ir. Lee Meng Chiat has over 35 years of active involvement in various aspects of Civil Infrastructures, Structural and Coastal Engineering Consultancy, Construction, Project Management, QA/QC, Surveys & Investigation Works. He has technical expertise in precast concrete structures and modular design, including review, detailing, drawings, production, quality assessment, quality control, supervision, heavy lifting, and installation since 1990.
