HALF DAY TALK ON “ELECTRIFYING TRANSFORMATION: CONVERTING FROM INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE (ICE) TO ELECTRIC POWER”

Date              : Saturday, 22 June 2024

Time             : 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Venue           : IEM (Southern Branch) Training Centre, 24B, Jalan Abiad, Taman Tebrau Jaya, 80400 Johor Bahru, Johor.

Speaker        : Ir. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Junaidi Abdul Aziz, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia

Synopsis

Converting an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle into an electric vehicle (EV) involves a significant overhaul of the vehicle's propulsion system and supporting components. The procedure entails planning and assessment, removing the ICE components, installing electric components, positioning and integrating battery packs, modifying the drivetrain, managing cooling and thermal systems, wiring the control system, and finally, testing and validation. In general, careful planning, engineering expertise, and a significant commitment of time and resources are needed to convert an internal combustion engine vehicle to electric power. On the other hand, it presents the opportunity to decrease emissions, increase the longevity of existing automobiles, and aid in the shift to more environmentally friendly modes of transportation.
